On the surface one is immediately confronted by the seeming effortlessness of Miolin’s playing, which is also almost entirely free of incident noise. This sense of ease is belied by intensely fanciful, spontaneous-feeling, broadly inflected lines taken in every piece.
Seldom does one encounter such a concentration upon and celebration of specific character, nor does one expect a northern European at any level of technical excellence to expand upon the popular music savor of Villa-Lobos as Miolin does. Anders Miolin quietly but firmly outstrips all his competition.
